UCLA’s 2025 NFL draft class will try to make its mark this summer. We can’t talk about the fall until we look at summer camp and the NFL preseason. UCLA has multiple players who were picked at the back end of the draft. These players can’t count on making 53-man roster cuts at the end of August, leading into Week 1 of the NFL season in early September. Making a big impression before the season is the key. Only then will the actual regular season become a topic of interest for these prospects. Kain Medrano is one such prospect with the Washington Commanders. So far, so good, as Commanders Wire reports:

“A sixth-round pick, Kain Medrano, must stand out in minicamp and training camp. He did so on Wednesday, forcing a Deebo Samuel fumble. That’s a big-time play. Remember defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. asking if Medrano was a safety or linebacker? It will not matter as long as he makes plays. The knock on Medrano is his tackling. If the Commanders can get that cleaned up, he could prove to be a steal.”

This is obviously fantastic news. Kain Medrano now has to build on this big moment and show he can stack together good reps and winning plays. If he carries this level of performance through the NFL preseason, he has a good chance of making the 53-man roster with a Super Bowl contender in Washington, D.C.
