The New England Patriots officially signed fourth-round draft pick Craig Woodson to his rookie deal on Friday. Terms of the contract have yet to be announced.

Woodson was selected with the 106th overall pick out of the University of California. He finished out his collegiate run with 70 tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery and seven pass deflections in 13 games last season.

There was some surprise that the Patriots would use a fourth-round pick on another safety, but Woodson is already beginning to turn heads and change minds after the spring practices. He’s an instinctive player who should benefit greatly from playing behind two solid veteran defensive backs in Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers.

He will further solidify the quality depth at a position considered to be a major strength for the Patriots. Perhaps he could even push Dugger for snaps at some point.

With Woodson signing his deal, that leaves running back TreVeyon Henderson as the lone rookie without a signed contract.
