Where does the Indianapolis Colts’ Jonathan Taylor land in Pro Football Focus’ fantasy football running back rankings ahead of the 2025 NFL season?
PFF’s Jonathon Marci recently ranked and put each running back into a tier for the upcoming fantasy season. Taylor found himself in Tier 3, which is titled “High-end workloads to consider for RB1.”
Joining Taylor in this category are Josh Jacobs, Kenneth Walker, and Kyren Williams. Overall, Taylor came in at No. 12 on this list of running backs.
“Even coming off a 300-plus-carry season in 2024, many of Taylor’s rushing metrics hit career lows, including rushing grade (64.1), yards after contact per attempt (2.68) and missed tackles forced per attempt (0.12),” wrote Macri. “Taylor still has a chance to push for RB1 thanks to his workload and lesser competition out of the backfield, but the risk of injury and below-average play have RB1 expectations tempered for 2025.”
Despite some of Taylor’s advanced numbers not being on par with what he had produced earlier in his career, he was still highly productive last season. Taylor ended up totaling the fourth-most rushing yards in 2024 with over 1,400, and did so in only 14 games. He also averaged 4.7 yards per rush, which ranked 11th, per PFF.
So, while yes, Taylor gets a lot of opportunities, he was still efficient with those carries.
Taylor will again handle a heavy workload this season. Regardless of who is under center for the Colts, he will remain a focal point. His success is pivotal when it comes to this offense finding consistency. When there is a strong running game to lean on, it keeps the offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations.
From a fantasy perspective, you can count on Taylor to get a lot of touches–he had the fifth-most carries in football in 2024, even with missing three games–and you can expect Taylor to produce when given those opportunities. However, as Marci noted, Taylor has dealt with injuries, appearing in 35 out of a possible 51 games over the last three years.
