LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) — It’s no secret what New England Patriots wide receiver and former Lufkin Panther standout Ja’lynn Polk can do on the football field.

But Friday night in Lufkin, it was what Polk did off the field that made quite an impact.

Polk, together with Academy Sports and Outdoors, put on a $5,000 shopping spree for kids with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas at the Lufkin Academy.

Kids from Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Polk County, and other parts of Deep East Texas each got a $200 gift card to buy new shoes, clothes, and other sports gear.

Polk, who’s heading into his second NFL season with the Patriots, says it’s special to him to be able to put a smile on these kids’ faces and give back.

Polk…who’s coming off shoulder surgery this offseason and is working to be 100 percent for the start of training camp, says he plans to continue giving back to Lufkin each year…by holding events similar to tonight’s shopping spree.
