Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fifth-year safety Brandon Jones, No. 22.
Before the Broncos: Jones (6-0, 191 pounds) was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft from the University of Texas. Jones spent four years with the Dolphins, playing in 38 games, starting 24 of them. Jones totaled 190 tackles (115 solo, 75 assisted and 10 tackles for loss), 8.0 sacks, five pass deflections, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception. Jones left the Dolphins in free agency, joining the Broncos on a three-year, $20 million deal in March 2024.
Broncos tenure: Jones had his best year as a pro in 2024, starting a career-high 15 games, totaling 115 tackles (79 solo, 36 assisted, two tackles for loss), 10 pass deflections, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Jones played a huge role after the release of fan-favorite Justin Simmons, and became a bargain buy at the safety position. Jones is signed with the Broncos through the 2026 season.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. Jones started 15 games for Denver in 2024, making him a lock in the Broncos’ secondary going into 2025. Jones will likely start across from free-agent signee Talanoa Hufanga to be the last hope in the Broncos’ talented defensive backfield. The Denver defense is projected to be even better than in 2024, which bodes well for last year’s playoff team.
