New Orleans Saints players reported for the second phase of offseason workouts at the Metairie practice facility this week, and many of them had the chance to wear their new team’s jersey for the first time. And some players returning from last year were spotted wearing new numbers. But we should note these numbers won’t be official until final roster cuts in September, so don’t go running to order a new jersey just yet.
No rookies have been assigned jersey numbers yet, either, and we probably won’t find out what they’ve chosen to wear until they report for rookie minicamp in two weeks. Here’s a quick look at the updates from the official team website roster:
2 – QB Spencer Rattler10 – WR Brandin Cooks13 – RB Velus Jones Jr.21 – S Justin Reid54 – DE Jonah Williams74 – OL Dillon Radunz88 – TE Jack stoll91 – DT Davon Godchaux98 – DE Chris Rumph II
As we mentioned, some jersey numbers are going to change (and in some cases, change hands) in the weeks and months ahead. Some of the numbers listed on the team website are not accurate. Godchaux is listed here in No. 91, but the Saints shared a video of him putting on his No. 92 jersey at practice on Tuesday. In another example, running back Kendre Miller is still listed in No. 25 but was spotted using No. 5 at that same practice session.
We’ll get clarity sooner or later, but 20 rookies picking their own numbers will certainly change things. So stay tuned, and maybe wait a little longer if there’s a jersey you’ve been eyeing.
