Jalen Ramsey may be far too big of a fish to catch for the Carolina Panthers.
With Ramsey and his Miami Dolphins seemingly on the outs, a handful of teams have been linked to a potential acquisition of the three-time All-Pro cornerback. Among the proposed suitors have been the Panthers, who hold a pretty intriguing link to the 30-year-old defender.
Speculation regarding a trade to Carolina grew when Ramsey, in a Twitter/X post from May, praised Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero—Ramsey’s position coach from their days with the Los Angeles Rams. Since that tweet, analysts and fans alike have considered the Panthers as a possible buyer.
But that hype train has been losing steam.
Last week, Joe Person of The Athletic opined that the Panthers wouldn’t be “inclined” to pursue either of Ramsey or fellow big-name cornerback Jaire Alexander. (He’s already one-for-one.)
And now, following a new bit of reporting from ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, hopeful Panthers fans might want to move on from the idea of reeling in Ramsey. Here’s the latest on the situation from Schefter, who appeared on The Pat McAfee Show this past Friday . . .
Ramsey already spent four seasons with the Rams, including the team’s Super Bowl-winning campaign in 2021. That, again, is where he crossed paths with Evero—who served as Los Angeles’ secondary coach and defensive passing game coordinator that year.
So, it feels like there might be a reunion in the works for Ramsey—but just not with Evero.
