SOUTH BEND — Newly married and fresh off his first Super Bowl victory as a backup quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, Ian Book has yet to sign a 2025 NFL contract.

But that doesn’t mean Book is done playing. Quite the contrary.

After moving back to South Bend a month ago, the winningest quarterback in program history (30-5 record as a starter) has been training daily at his alma mater and is staying ready should the phone ring.

“I’m a free agent right now,” Book said Sunday afternoon at the Golic SubPar Golf Classic fundraiser at Warren Golf Course.  “I’m just waiting for a call. I’m training here at Notre Dame, using the facilities, throwing with the guys.”

Now 27, Book has appeared in just one NFL game since the New Orleans Saints drafted him in the fourth round in 2021. He completed 12 of 20 passes for 135 yards and two interceptions in an emergency start against the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 27 of his rookie year.

Playing behind a patchwork offensive line, Book was sacked eight times that night.

Since then, he’s bounced around, latching on with the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and serving two different stints with the Eagles (2022 and 2024). He’s due to receive his Super Bowl ring in a July 18 ceremony in Philadelphia.

Asked if he still has the burning desire to keep playing football, Book didn’t hesitate.

“Hell, yeah,” he said. “Oh, it’s there. I’ll give it everything I got this year. No question.”

In the meantime, Book has signed on with South Bend-based Golden Legacy Partners, teaming with co-founders and former Irish offensive linemen Josh Lugg and Tommy Kraemer in the world of real estate management.

Listed on the company’s website as director of investor relations, Book has joined forces with two other former Irish teammates: former offensive tackle Cole Mabry (chief investment officer) and co-founder Liam Eichenberg, the former Notre Dame All-America tackle now entering his fifth season with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

“They’re amazing,” Book said. “(Lugg’s) team is awesome. We’re two years in and we’re rolling. We’ve acquired a property management group, a brokerage group, and we’re doing investments around town. They’re doing a great job.”

In addition, two-time Notre Dame lacrosse national champion Jake Taylor is listed as a broker associate. The former star attackman was selected ninth overall in this spring’s Premier Lacrosse League draft.

Armed with a marketing degree from Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, Book is enjoying his new venture as his former linemen again pave the way.

“I’m working for them, helping raise money,” Book said. “We’re just taking everything we learned in football and we’re taking it to the business world.”
