The Indianapolis Colts have had issues keeping their hopeful franchise quarterback Anthony Richardson on the field consistently. Whenever that happens, the team is likely to have to find a reliable backup option, and they found one by looking at the Minnesota Vikings roster.
Daniel Jones, who signed with the team in the middle of the 2024 season after being cut by the New York Giants, signed with the Colts this offseason. He chose to head to Indianapolis hoping to see the field sooner, and that gamble may be paying off.

In a recent article discussing news not to overreact to, NFL Media’s Judy Basttista also gave some headlines not to sleep on. One of the things not to sleep on was the former Vikings quarterback starting in Indianapolis sooner rather than later.
She writes, “Among the issues that have led the Indianapolis Colts to stage a quarterback competition between Richardson and former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is Richardson’s inability to stay on the field.. . .The current setback clearly gives Jones a significant edge in a competition he had a good chance of winning anyway. . .”
Kevin O’Connell may not have the coaching tree that other coaches do, but he is growing a quarterback tree.
If Jones starts in Indianapolis, it would be the second former quarterback of his from the 2024 team to be starting for a team in 2025. Sam Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks to start this season, and Jones could be following in those footsteps.
