HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Marcus Mariota’s Motiv8 Foundation took over the Pearl at Kalauao golf course on Monday for their 9th annual tournament.
It was a way to raise funds for Motiv8 and thank all of the donors that help fund the foundation’s year-round efforts.
“Their belief in motivate is is humbling and we look forward to it every year, We have a lot of the same people that have been with us now for 10 years,” Mariota told reporters. “The generosity and the opportunity for these guys to make a difference in their own community, it’s just fun to be a part of it and just try to help where we can.”
Funding for initiatives like providing shoes and beds for under funded communities here in Hawaii and Oregon. Mariota using his reach as a professional athlete to try and give back.
“Football has provided such an incredible platform, but it’s Motiv8, this is what lasts way beyond that so we’re thankful.” Mariota said.
While it was a fun day out on the course, it also signifies that Marcus’ 10th season in the NFL is about to begin.
The NFL quarterback is in his second season with the Washington Commanders. Coming off of a 2024 campaign that saw them Make a deep run in the playoffs.
“When you’re that close and you’re a game away, I think there’s there’s a heightened level of urgency,” Mariota said. “Guys are focused on what they can do to even just improve a little bit.”
Mariota in a reserve roll on the team, but was a key mentor in quarterback Jayden Daniel’s breakout rookie season.
A new perspective for the Heisman trophy winner as he’s crossed the decade mark in the NFL.
“It’s to a point right now in my career where I’m just enjoying it,” Mariota said. “I think early on the expectations, the drive, I think really just kind of clouded maybe what was going on around me and I didn’t take time to really appreciate kind of the journey.”
Mariota and his family is set to return to the mainland as he continues to train ahead of the NFL season.
