Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fifth-year defensive back Devon Key, No. 26.
Before the Broncos: Key was a four-year player at Western Kentucky from 2017-20. Key played in 49 career games for the Hilltoppers, totaling 350 total tackles (192 solo, 158 combined), six interceptions, two interceptions returned for touchdowns, 19 pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent following the 2021 NFL draft and spent part of his rookie year on KC’s practice squad. Key then had a stint on the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Broncos midway through the 2022 campaign.

Broncos tenure: Key has played in 18 total games as a Bronco, including 16 in the 2024 regular season, plus Denver’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. Key started in two games in 2024, totaling 33 tackles (17 solo, 16 assisted, one tackle for loss), one sack. Key played 22 percent of defensive snaps and 54 percent of special teams snaps in 2024.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: On the bubble. Key has been playing as a defensive back and on special teams, which makes him a valuable player in the eyes of head coach Sean Payton. Key provides depth at safety if any injuries occur, but if he makes the active roster, his biggest contributions will come on special teams.
