Among the biggest stories of the NFL offseason has been the contract-related standoff between the Cincinnati Bengals and superstar defensive end Trey Hendrickson. Discussions about a potential extension have taken multiple turns. It’s still possible that the Bengals simply admit defeat and trade Hendrickson before training camp.
And one popular NFL analyst believes the Seahawks should enter the mix. The NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah recently made an appearance on Seattle Sports 710 to discuss all things Seahawks. Acquiring Hendrickson was floated.

“I know you’ve got to pay him a bunch of money, but heck yeah, man,” Jeremiah said (via SeattleSports.com). “I’d be in the business of trying to collect great players. (The Seahawks have) a fast defense. They’ve got a very talented defense. But man, you throw in a guy like that who’s gonna get off the bus and get you 12 to 15 sacks because he’s such a good, natural, instinctive pass rusher? And you’re in a division where you’ve gotta go hunt Matthew Stafford? Yeah, 100%, I would try and be in on that.”
The Seahawks have some high-quality pass rushers on the roster. In 2024, Leonard Williams became the franchise’s first player to record 10-plus sacks since 2018. Ascending pass rushers Boye Mafe and Derick Hall combined for 14 sacks, 3.5 less than Hendrickson managed last year.
The Seahawks currently possess $31.2 million in cap space, ninth-most in the league. GM John Schneider possesses the financial flexibility to make a serious inquiry about Hendrickson, though the Bengals would expect elite compensation (draft picks) in exchange for their star pass rusher.
As enticing as the possibility sounds, the Seahawks have young pass rushers on their roster who will be due lucrative extensions in the coming offseasons. Schneider reset the roster this offseason in a manner that would make acquiring a 29-year-old Hendrickson a confusing move. Ultimately expect the Bengals to get Hendrickson signed to an extension.
