Josh Allen achieved a major career milestone when he won his first MVP award last season. Yet the Buffalo Bills quarterback is still seeking his first Super Bowl title.

Allen beat Lamar Jackson in a tight MVP race after accounting for 40 touchdowns (28 passing, 12 rushing) with six interceptions and a 77.3 QBR in 2024. Yet a Lombardi Trophy still eludes the 29-year-old, as the Kansas City Chiefs eliminated the Bills for the fourth time in the last five postseasons.

In an interview published last week, Sports Illustrated’s Liam McKeone asked Allen how he’ll stay motivated to improve on an MVP campaign. Allen downplayed the importance of that individual accolade as he continues to pursue Buffalo’s first championship.

“I don’t play too much into it,” Allen said. “You know, it is such a great honor, and I do appreciate being honored for my work. But at the same time, I still didn’t win a Super Bowl. Didn’t win a ring, and that is the only goal. It’s the only focus that I’ve ever had going into this league.”

To Allen, winning MVP was most significant in signaling the team’s success during the regular season. However, the award still felt hollow without a Lombardi Trophy.

“At the end of the day, you got to make the playoffs and then you got to win three, maybe four games,” Allen added. “And that’s what we need to do. And we’re going to continue to work as hard as we can, and myself included. What can we do to find a way over that hump? So that’s the only goal going forward.”

Allen has steered Buffalo to six straight postseasons and five consecutive AFC East titles. The Bills are a perennial title contender, but they’re still seeking their first Super Bowl appearance since losing the Big Game four straight times from 1991 to 1994.

Oddsmakers expect the Bills to remain in the running this season. Buffalo is a co-favorite on FanDuel and DraftKings to reach Allen’s goal and win the Super Bowl.
