Current NFL tight end and Bend native Luke Musgrave returned to his roots this week, hosting his first youth football camp at Bend High School.
Musgrave, who graduated from Bend High in 2019, is now a starter for the Green Bay Packers. But this week, he was back on the same field where his football journey began — this time, inspiring the next generation.
“It means a lot,” Musgrave said. “It’s really cool to see all the people that love football, and do something that I love and maybe, hopefully help them out.”
A standout at both Bend High and Oregon State, Musgrave was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. But he hasn’t forgotten where it all started.
“It’s pretty cool and rewarding to kind of look back and see that mountain you climb,” he said.
The one day camp focused more on fun than stats, with kids running drills, asking questions, and simply enjoying the game.
“I’m just excited to have fun,” Musgrave said. “This is the fun part of football… just playing and getting out there on the field.”
Musgrave shared more than just technique. His advice to the young athletes? Keep showing up and stay ready.
“Have fun. Work hard,” he said. “Just have your line in the water, I guess. Nothing’s going to happen with your line on the riverbank, just jump in the water and see what bites.”
“This is my home. This is a place I really care about,” he added. “And it’s really cool to see all this.”
Musgrave says he hopes to make the camp an annual event, giving more Central Oregon kids a chance to learn, grow, and dream big.
