The NFL has entered a two-month lull of activity between OTAs and training camp, and while many players are enjoying their time off to vacation, others are still grinding. It’s become trendy in recent years for star players to organize conferences, film study sessions, and even field work to share knowledge with their peers.

One of the most high-profile events is the “Tight End University” hosted by Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce and his San Francisco 49ers rival George Kittle, plus former NFL tight end (and one of the all-time great villains in New Orleans Saints history) Greg Olsen. And four members of the Saints will be in attendance this week hoping to learn from the best to do it.

Projected starters Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau as well as veteran backups Jack Stoll and Michael Jacobson were all listed in attendance by TEU’s official Instagram account. Johnson signed a lucrative contract extension this spring and figures to play a big role in Kellen Moore’s offense; the first-year head coach has called a lot of passes for his tight ends in previous stints on the headset, so getting this time to chop it up with the league’s best players at his position could do a lot to help Johnson level up.

Just look at the usage Moore’s leading tight ends saw in previous years, with Johnson coming off a career-high 66 targets last season:

2019: Jason Witten had 83 targets with the Dallas Cowboys

2020: Dalton Schultz had 89 targets with the Dallas Cowboys

2021: Dalton Schultz had 104 targets with the Dallas Cowboys

2022: Dalton Schultz had 89 targets with the Dallas Cowboys

2023: Gerald Everett had 70 targets targets with the Los Angeles Chargers

That suggests Johnson has a heavy workload ahead of him. Moreau is still recovering from a significant knee injury suffered in the 2024 regular season finale but he figures to have a key role in Moore’s system, too, once healthy. Stoll knows the coaching staff well from his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and will be competing with Jacobson for a roster spot. Any tips and tricks they can pick up in June could give them an edge come roster cuts in August.
