Jaguars RB Travis Etienne welcomes the competition in his contract year

Travis Etienne is in his contract year with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s also the subject if trade rumors. He said it doesn’t concern him.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced they’ve signed rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten.

Tuten was drafted in the fourth round of this year’s draft at No. 104 overall by the Jaguars. The speedy back out of Virginia Tech was a priority for the team, with home run abilities every time he touches the ball and the ability to shed tacklers.

“If you look at Tuten with the ability to strike from a distance. He can get to the second or third level and score from anywhere on the field,” Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said after the team drafted him. “I think behind the line of scrimmage, forced missed tackles were through the roof for him in terms of getting back or at least getting yards after that contact behind the line of scrimmage.”

Tuten rushed for 2,022 yards and 25 touchdowns through 24 games with the Hokies. He entered the NFL Draft as the fastest running back to run the 40-yard dash during the pre-draft process. He posted a 4.32s 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

He displayed that speed during minicamp where he broke off a long touchdown run, untouched. Now, he’ll head into training camp with a signed contract and a chance to be featured heavily in Liam Coen’s offensive system.

Tuten, along with fellow backs Travis Etienne, Tank Bigsby and LeQuint Allen Jr., will have a chance to play a role in Coen’s scheme. He’ll lean on each of them as he tries to improve Jacksonville’s rushing attack in his first season as head coach.

The Jaguars announced they signed first-rounder Travis Hunter to his rookie contract earlier in the week. The team will report back to the Miller Electric Center on July 19 for rookies and July 22 for veteran players.
