The Los Angeles Rams are bringing back a familiar face. QB Dresser Winn – who played for the Memphis Showboats this past UFL season – is re-signing with the team, sources tell Pro Football Newsroom. The contract signing is not yet official, but will be soon.

Dresser Winn has had a unique journey in pro football so far. He signed with the Los Angeles Rams back in 2023, as an UDFA. He spent a full year on their practice squad, and was also with the team during Training Camp in 2024 – but was let go during cutdowns.

Winn eventually made his way to Memphis, after attending a UFL Showcase. He came into camp late, so he was primarily QB3 to start the year as he replaced Quinten Dormady.

However, after an 0-4 start, Head Coach Jim Turner knew something needed to change. He decided to give Dresser Winn the start in week five, on the road against Birmingham. Winn proved to be the spark that Memphis needed, throwing for 235 yards and a touchdown – securing the overtime victory.

IT’S DRESSER WINN SEASON BABY!

What an absolute dime to Dee Anderson, who takes off 78 yards for the touchdown. @USFLShowboats rolling early. How about this new-look Memphis offense led by Noel Mazzone & Dresser Winn? #UFLpic.twitter.com/0DD9i0Nwu1

Dresser would win Offensive Player of the Week honors after that win, and earned the starting gig. The next two games, though, the Showboats would lose to both Houston and St. Louis – with offensive struggles once again entering the picture.

Winn ended up throwing for 834 yards and three touchdowns, alongside four interceptions during his five game stint (four starts). He was benched in weeks 8-9 for Troy Williams and E.J. Perry, which certainly interrupted his flow and development.

With Dresser’s familiarity with Sean McVay’s system, it’s no surprise to see him back in Los Angeles as Training Camp approaches. Memphis personnel spoke highly of Dresser as he came in, highlighting that “McVay saw something in him” to keep Winn in LA for two years. Winn had a strong college career at Tennessee-Martin, throwing for 5,798 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Now, Dresser Winn gets the chance to return to the NFL, with the Rams. Without the national platform that the UFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have been possible.

Dresser is the first Memphis Showboats player to sign an NFL contract this offseason. You can stay up to date on all UFL to NFL movement with our official tracker.
