On Monday, word came out that Tennessee Titans rookie tight end Gunnar Helm would be attending Tight End University in Nashville for the next three days. This is an excellent opportunity for Helm, and he won’t be alone during the sessions. On Tuesday, he was joined on the field by another member of the Titans to assist with the workouts.
No, it wasn’t fellow tight end Chig Okonkwo, who was already a two-time alumnus of this event, attending in 2023 and 2024. Instead, Helm was joined on the field by Titans quarterback Will Levis.
While this may not seem like a big deal, the fact that Levis will be getting in extra reps by throwing to a group of elite tight ends is another building block on what has already been a productive offseason for the third-year quarterback. Levis spent a portion of the offseason working on mechanics with quarterback guru Jordan Palmer, and it has translated to the field during workouts.
Head coach Brian Callahan has applauded Levis and the work he has put in during the offseason, even noting the improved consistency and mechanics. Unfortunately, for Levis, he could be out of a job in a few months. Yes, he is in a quarterback competition with Cam Ward to be the Titans’ starter. Still, many outside the organization believe it is a competition in name only, and Ward is already ticketed to start Week 1 in Denver.
Levis has the tools teams look for in their quarterbacks, and it will be fun to watch this competition play out through the rest of the offseason. This is the NFL, and anything can happen.
