Let’s take a closer look at this Indianapolis Colts team as we go player-by-player through the roster. Up next is WR Josh Downs.

With offseason programs now behind us, we will be getting a jump start on our training camp preview by going player-by-player through the Indianapolis Colts’ 91-man roster.

Going alphabetically, up next is wide receiver Josh Downs.

In his second season, Downs continued to establish himself as one of the game’s more productive slot receivers. He finished the year catching 71% of his 102 targets while totaling 803 yards and five touchdowns.

Among all slot wideouts in 2024, Downs ranked third in receptions, fourth in yards, and was ninth in yards after the catch, according to PFF.

Regardless of who the quarterback was for the Colts, Downs has been a steady, go-to presence in this offense, and that is particularly evident in those must-have-it third-down situations where he has been extremely efficient.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season

To state the obvious, Downs will continue to be a focal point within this offense. What I am curious to see is if things change for him with Tyler Warren now at tight end. On paper, having Warren’s presence over the middle of the field and the mismatches he creates can help open up opportunities for Downs and perhaps expand how Shane Steichen utilizes him within the offense.
