Our team of NFL Wires editors selected one breakout player from each of our respective teams for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. For the Jacksonville Jaguars, I selected tight end Brenton Strange, and a big reason for that is the added opportunities that will be out there for him in Liam Coen’s offense.

The Jaguars are extremely bullish on Strange, who now sits at the top of the tight end depth chart. Last season, he saw an increase in opportunities and came away with 54 targets on the year.

Now, within Coen’s offense, there appears to be the opportunity for even more this season. Looking at the Tampa Bay offense in 2024, where Coen was the play caller, tight end Cade Otton finished the season with 84 targets, which was the ninth-most among all tight ends. He was also 14th in yards and 13th in touchdowns, per PFF.

Going beyond Strange’s potential production, his impact on this Jaguars’ offense will go beyond the stat sheet. As a capable run blocker and someone who can move around the formation, Strange can add some unpredictability to the offense with the variety of roles he can fill.

This can then open up opportunities for himself to exploit with mismatches that can be created, but also for his teammates.

“His work ethic, first and foremost, is hopefully a leadership attribute that the guys can model and see what he does on a day-to-day basis,” offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said. “But from a leadership standpoint and just from a player standpoint, you see a guy with a lot of potential to just continue to grow, whether it’s in the pass game or the run game.

“A guy with a lot of physical traits that can be that balanced tight end and do a lot of different things that this offense will ask him to do.”
