The Jacksonville Jaguars made a big splash during the 2025 NFL Draft when they traded up to draft Colorado Buffaloes cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter with the second overall pick.

The pick originally belonged to the Cleveland Browns before the Jaguars offered a trade package that was good enough.
After drafting Hunter, they signed him to a four-year $46.65 million fully guaranteed contract. The deal also includes a $30.57 million signing bonus.
Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton saw the deal and is ready to see him make a play for his new team.
“I just want to see you make a play, Trav. You dig what I’m saying? It’s a folks room for you bro, and I’m happy for you and your family man, and keep rocking and rolling,” Newton said on his “4th&1 With Cam Newton” podcast.

If Hunter’s collegiate career is any indication, he is going to make plenty of plays in the NFL. He won the Heisman Trophy last season after finishing with 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a wide receiver and 35 total tackles, 11 passes defended, and four interceptions as a cornerback.

He is committed to playing both positions in the NFL and wants to be a difference-maker right away.
The Jaguars are hoping for a big turnaround in 2025 after a four-win season in 2024. Before that, they compiled back-to-back nine-win seasons and got to the divisional round of the playoffs in 2022.
They will open the 2025 season at home against the Carolina Panthers on September 7.
