When the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis with the 13th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, the team hoped to select the next Fletcher Cox for the defensive line.

That hasn’t happened yet.

Davis has struggled to stay on the field due to injuries and his schematic fit over the years with three different defensive coordinators. He has recorded just three sacks throughout his career with the Eagles.

While his future is certainly up for debate, the Eagles gave themselves some time to fully determine if Davis is worthy of a long-term extension. Philadelphia exercised Davis’ fifth-year option on Wednesday, paying the athletic tackle almost $13 million in 2026.

Philadelphia is hoping Davis plays a lot more to be worthy of that large cap hit, though. … so in a sense, this season represents a deadline of sorts.

Davis played in just 37% of the snaps last season for the Eagles’ defense. While he became an elite run-stopper, Philadelphia needs more from him if they are to give him a long-term deal.

There is reason for optimism.

Davis recorded a PFF Playoff grade of over 90 last season and recorded a sack in both the NFC Title Game and Super Bowl. If he plays like that the rest of the way for the 2025 season, he will be receiving a lucrative extension over the next calendar year.

Time is running out, though. Davis needs to produce a lot more if he is to be worthy of that extension. And it’s no or never for him to show that.
