Ohio County, WV — The Linsly School graduate and Dallas Cowboys special teams standout CJ Goodwin returned to his roots to host a free All-Star camp for local youth. The camp, organized through the PEGA Foundation, which Goodwin and his sister established in 2016 in memory of their father Perry Galloway, welcomes over 300 children annually.
“When we started it kind of seemed like we were just getting all the pieces together. We didn’t imagine it going for 8 years. I didn’t imagine I would be in the league for 8 years long either. So, you know, as long as I’m in the league, this will be going on,” Goodwin said.
The camp features NFL instructors and cheerleaders, with volunteers assisting children in various drills and activities. Beyond the camp, Goodwin and his family have impacted over 2,000 youth by partnering with schools across several states to provide athletic mentorship and gear.
Eric Rowe, a volunteer and Goodwin’s stepdad, said, “CJ’s been doing this as a way to give back to the community. His dad was a big influence on him, as well as others in the community. And it’s just to pass on his legacy. This is something the community needs and I hope forever that this camp still does what it does.”
Goodwin and his family have been organizing this camp for eight years and plan to continue their efforts in the future.
