The Los Angeles Rams are much considered the front-runners to land Miami Dolphins cornerback, Jalen Ramsey.

Although there are other attractive options, the Rams make the overwhelmingly most amount of sense.

They are lacking a true CB1 in a room that has plenty of depth but not a ton of strength. They are currently looking to compete for championships, and after once again reinforcing the front seven during free agency and the draft, could well set their sights on bringing in a top cornerback still playing at an elite level.

Not to mention, Ramsey is a former Ram, having won Super Bowl LVI with the team at the end of the 2021 season.

However NFL insider, Albert Breer, revealed on Thursday that LA have put a potential requirement on any trade for Ramsey, one that could have the Dolphins re-thinking his move to the City of Angels.

Breer writes that the Rams would “probably require” the Dolphins to pay part of Ramsey’s guaranteed salary.

And whilst this may not seem like a huge deal, this could end up being a potential dealbreaker for Miami due to their non-ideal cap situation.

The Dolphins had to be meticulous with their free agent signings this past offseason as they navigated their relatively small amount of available cap space, mostly bringing in cheaper players during the second and third waves of free agency back in mid-March.

And with the team set to have just $8 million in cap space in 2026, ranking 28th in the league, the Dolphins will want all the rollover cap they can get – where money saved in 2025 transfers over to the 2026 cap space (to a certain extent) – in shipping off Ramsey.

All depends on how much exactly the Rams want Miami to pay, but if it does not make financial sense for the Dolphins, they may have to turn elsewhere for another suitor – even if the trade compensation is smaller.
