Texas quarterback Arch Manning will take over as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback this season after serving as Quinn Ewers’ backup for two years. Manning discussed his preparation and expectations during a recent interview at the Manning Passing Academy.

The redshirt sophomore has climbed the depth chart after limited game action in 2024. Manning made his first two starts for Texas last fall while gaining valuable experience behind Ewers.

Manning Addresses NFL Draft Speculation

Despite projections as a potential top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Manning remains focused on his collegiate career. He emphasized controlling what he can control rather than external expectations.

“I’m not really worried about what other people think. Just get my job prepared. And when it’s time to go play, go play,” Manning said.

The quarterback credited his time learning from Ewers as crucial to his development. Manning absorbed lessons on handling media attention, mental preparation, and leadership responsibilities.

“I’ve learned a lot, a lot about myself. Picked up a lot from Quinn’s game and just how he handled everything, whether it was on the football side of it, the mental piece, the media,” Manning explained.

Leadership Development Focus

Manning identified leadership growth as his primary offseason priority. The transition from backup to starter required adjustments in team dynamics and communication approaches.

“This year, it’s nice. You’re full-throttle and be the guy and I’m blessed to be in this position,” Manning stated.

Manning studies quarterbacks Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes to incorporate elements into his playing style. Texas opens the season against Ohio State in Week 1.

Manning was asked about his NFL draft status as a potential No. 1 pick despite not being a regular starter yet.

“Yeah, I really don’t pay much attention to anyone, what they think besides my coaches, my parents and some close friends that will tell me the truth,” said Manning. “But I’m not worried about what other people think. I’m just going to go out there and have fun and play my game.”
