The Miami Dolphins selected eight players in the 2025 NFL draft, but only two within the draft’s first four rounds.
Still, ESPN made note of a pair of the Dolphins‘ draft picks in its look at the top-100 selections. Both Dolphins players recognized were Day 3 selections.
ESPN’s Matt Miller ranked quarterback Quinn Ewers of Texas as the 59th-best pick and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips from Maryland as the 81st-best pick.
Here’s what Miller and ESPN had to say about each of those players for Miami:
QB Quinn Ewers
Miami plucked Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers with pick No. 231 in the seventh round of the NFL draft. The 6’2, 214-pound signal-caller led Texas to the College Football Playoff semifinal against eventual national champion Ohio State.
Ewers passed for nearly 3,500 yards in each of his final two seasons at Texas. The Southlake, Texas product passed for 31 touchdowns last season with the Longhorns.
“I graded Ewers as a “developmental starter,” and he landed with a team where he can evolve into that (while also having potential opportunities, given Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history). The fact that he was still available in Round 7 is shocking, but teams are hesitant to draft backup QBs in the middle rounds in this era of team-building.” – Miller, ESPN.
Ewers ended his collegiate career with 9,128 passing yards and 68 passing touchdowns. He added eight rushing scores as well.
DT Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips comes to Miami after he was chosen by the Dolphins with pick No. 143 in the fifth round. The 6’2, 312-pound defensive tackle started 23 games over the past two seasons, tallying 57 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
“Miami has needed a 3-technique since Christian Wilkins left in free agency last offseason. Phillips has the first-step quickness to slide into that role and flourish.” – Miller, ESPN.
Phillips was No. 120 on Miller’s final draft board. The Ocoee, Fla. native began his career at Tennessee.
