The Colts’ fate in 2025 will be determined by this crucial factor, says NFL insider.
NFL insider Albert Breer put together his takeaways and offseason thoughts for each of the 32 teams. When it came to the Indianapolis Colts, as Breer stated, we’ve all heard this thought or takeaway before, but it once again remains true heading into the upcoming season:
“The Colts’ fate will be dictated by who plays quarterback,” wrote Breer.
Breer added that Daniel Jones “will enter the summer with a great shot to win the job.” This sentiment shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, given that Jones took most of the first-team reps while Anthony Richardson was sidelined.
The competition is far from over, but with fewer reps, Richardson will have to hit the ground running once he’s available.
While the quarterback position remains an unknown, there’s a lot to like about this Colts’ roster. The Colts added Tyler Warren, who provides a major boost at tight end, while Jonathan Taylor finished fourth last season in rushing yards.
At wideout, although the Colts didn’t have any receiver eclipse 1,000 yards last season, they were the only team to have three receivers total more than 800 yards each.
On defense, the secondary has been reshaped with the additions of Cam Bynum and Charvarius Ward, not to mention that Lou Anarumo’s more aggressive and disguise-heavy scheme should help elevate the play of this entire unit.
“The offense has a shot to be pretty interesting, with rookie tight end Tyler Warren joining a balanced if unspectacular, skill group,” added Breer. “And I’d bet Lou Anarumo will make a difference right away on defense.”
So, one can see a path for the Colts when it comes to winning games this season. But how many? Well, back to the original point that Breer brought up, that will hinge on how good the quarterback play is.
