Best AFC 2025 NFL Draft picks

USA TODAY’s Tyler Dragon breaks down which teams in the AFC drafted the best this year.

Sports Seriously

The Kansas City Chiefs had a chance to make NFL history last season. They were playing in their third consecutive Super Bowl and had an opportunity to become the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era.

The Chiefs came up short in those efforts. Kansas City was crushed in the Big Game by the Philadelphia Eagles, losing 40-22 in a game that was even more lopsided than the final score indicates.

Kansas City’s defeat exposed one of its biggest weaknesses. Its offensive line wasn’t up to the challenge of protecting star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was pressured early and often in the Super Bowl 59 loss.

The Chiefs made an effort to fix those issues during the 2025 offseason by improving their offensive tackle room. They signed Jaylon Moore to a two-year deal in free agency to compete for the left tackle job and later spent a first-round draft pick on Ohio State’s Josh Simmons.

While those moves should improve Kansas City’s left tackle position, they created questions at left guard. The team traded All-Pro Joe Thuney, who filled in at left tackle last year, to the Chicago Bears and plans on replacing him with 2024 second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia.

Will the Chiefs’ gambit pay off? NFL fans will be eager to see as the Chiefs look to log their 11th consecutive season with double-digit wins.

Below is a look at Kansas City’s opponents for the 2025 NFL season.

As usual, the Chiefs are set to face each AFC West divisional opponent twice during the 2025 NFL season. They will also play every team in the AFC South and NFC East as part of the NFL’s yearly rotating schedule.

Kansas City’s final three opponents – the Bills, Lions and Ravens – were determined based on the Chiefs’ first-place finish in their division.

When is the 2025 NFL schedule release?

The NFL is set to reveal its 2025 schedule in full on Wednesday, May 14.

The NFL has turned the schedule release into a marquee offseason event. On schedule release day, the league announces the 18-week slate of matchups for all 32 teams.

This year’s schedule release will be held one day earlier than last year’s, which was on May 15. The NFL announced the 2024 schedule at 8 p.m. ET that night, so fans can expect a similar release time for this year’s schedule.
