WASHINGTON (7News) — D.C. Council members gathered at a Georgetown restaurant with officials from the Washington Commanders on Monday hours after the council chair spoke on a possible delay to a key vote on the RFK Stadium site redevelopment.
The gathering was held at Cafe Milano, and while D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson confirmed his plans to attend the dinner, other council members did not announce their plans. Sources confirmed to 7News’ Christian Flores that the entire council was invited.

Councilmembers, hours before the Monday evening dinner, were in the Wilson Building to discuss the city’s budget and public safety among other topics. Mendelson, when asked about a timeline for the stadium vote, said he had no plans of calling on council members during its August recess after stating that reports on the stadium aren’t expected to be ready until late July.
Last week, Mendelson proposed a bill to separate much of the discussion of a proposed new home for the Washington Commanders from talks over the city’s budget, which is facing a mid-July deadline. The measure was approved by the council during a Committee of the Whole meeting.
Councilmembers Robert White and Brianne Nadeau briefly spoke to a small group of stadium protesters while leaving the restaurant.
Both were asked about the stadium and how the conversation went inside the restaurant. White declined to provide an immediate comment but offered to provide a statement at a later time.
7News asked Nadeau if the Commanders put pressure on the council for the stadium; she said no.
