New York Jets starting quarterback Justin Fields is a dual-threat signal caller. Last season, Fields finished 14th among quarterbacks in rushing yards with 289 despite making just six starts for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2022, the former Ohio State standout finished his sophomore year with 1,143 rushing yards, making him the third NFL quarterback after Vick and Lamar Jackson to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Fields’ rushing ability projects as a massive part of the Jets’ offense in 2025. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand will use Fields’ legs as an extension of the passing game. With such little pass-catching depth behind Garrett Wilson, the Jets will get creative offensively.

Pro Football Focus recently released rushing props for the 2025 season. They have Fields rushing for more than 550 yards this season.
“Unlike last season in Pittsburgh, Fields is in the driver’s seat for the Jets through the 2025 campaign,” Mason Cameron wrote. “Without a ton of proven help in the receiving game outside of Garrett Wilson, the dynamic dual-threat quarterback will need to make some magic happen with his legs. Fortunately, Fields is more than comfortable with playing outside the pocket and scrambling for quality yardage, as well as being a featured piece within a rushing scheme on designed quarterback runs.
“Over the past decade, a quarterback has managed to surpass 550 rushing yards in a season 29 times. Fields accounts for two instances. That includes his outstanding performance in 2022, when he rushed for more than 1,100 yards — the second most by a quarterback in the PFF era and just the fourth time a signal-caller has eclipsed 1,000. With a full season of running the show in New York, Fields can easily go over this line (550.5).”
Fields could be a top-three finisher in quarterback rushing yards this season.
