The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.

Next up is safety Budda Baker.

Budda Baker background

Baker remains the glue that holds the defense together and is entering his ninth season with the Cardinals after being selected in the second round of the 2017 draft. After missing five games in 2023, Baker started all 17 games last season and was voted team co-MVP with running back James Conner by the Arizona chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America.

2024 stats for Budda Baker

The team’s leading tackler with 164 (95 solo), Baker also led the Cardinals with 10 tackles for loss while registering two sacks, one forced fumble, five passes defensed and three quarterback hits. He was named to his seventh Pro Bowl and was first-team All-Pro for the second time.

Buda Baker 2025 contract details, cap hit

In mid-December of 2024 as he neared the end of his contract, Baker signed a three-year contract extension through 2027 that has a total value of $54 million and included a $12.245 million signing bonus. His $7 million salary for 2025 is guaranteed and the cap charge this year is $10.816 million.

Questions he faces

There are few questions for Baker after he signed the contract extension. Despite being 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds, but playing the position like someone much bigger, the amazingly durable 29-year-old Baker has missed only 10 games in his eight NFL seasons.

2025 roster outlook

Part of an improving defense, coupled with Jalen Thompson, they form an always consistent duo that is one of the best safety pairings in the NFL.
