Nevada Sports Net obtained the Pac-12’s grant of media rights and membership agreements through a public-record request Tuesday, although the latter document was heavily redacted, keeping secret a series of information about the rebuilt conference.

The Pac-12 will add five Mountain West schools (San Diego State, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Utah State), one Sun Belt school (Texas State) and one West Coast Conference school (Gonzaga) in its rebuilt conference starting July 1, 2026. Those school will join current members Orgon State and Washington State.

“Redactions have been made to records pertaining to ongoing or anticipated litigation pursuant to ORS 192.345(1),” Oregon State wrote while providing its documents. “You may seek review of our determination to apply these exemptions pursuant to ORS 192.407, 192.411, 192.415, 192.418, 192.422, 192.427 and 192.431.”

While a bevy of information remains secret, here are some nuggets from the grant of media rights and membership agreements with both documents at the bottom of the page.

* The grant of media rights extends through June 30, 2031, making this a five-year agreement rather than the previous expected six-year pact

* Each of the Pac-12 schools handed their media rights to the conference through June 30, 2031

* While the conference has the sole authority to negotiate media-rights deals, those contracts must be approved by at least three-quarters of the league with Oregon State and Washington State both in favor

* Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State agreed to join the Pac-12 on Sept. 11; Utah State did so on Sept. 23; and Gonzaga did so on Sept. 30

* The joining schools agreed to not facilitate or encourage any inquiries from conferences with the exception of the Power 4 leagues (SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, ACC)

* The schools agreed to take responsibility for all debts, obligations and legal fees as a result of departing its previous conference (a subhead under this section is redacted and seems to indicate the Pac-12 will cover a portion of these fees)

* Schools that earn revenue from appearances in the NCAA Tournament and/or College Football Playoff will get 50 percent of that net payment with the rest being equally distributed among the league’s other teams; this is a shift from most league’s formulas that equally share that revenue; this section also includes heavy redactions

* It appears as if Gonzaga will get a full revenue share despite not sponsoring football, although several sections of “the Gonzaga Provisions” are redacted

* Any new members added to the league must get two-thirds approval with Oregon State and Washington State both in favor

* New members agreed to hit minimum athletic department spending, minimum student-athletes benefits and minimum annual investment standards within one year of its entrance date; those specific benchmarks were not outlined.

* The membership agreement states a school leaving for a Power 4 conference must give at least one year’s notice and with an exit fee equal to two times the Pac-12’s average conference distribution; that “A4 Exit Fee” could be lowered based on when the exit takes place

* A school can withdraw without penalty to join a Power 4 school upon the expiration of the grant of media rights, but if it joins a non-Power 4 conference upon that expiration, it would owe the Pac-12 three times the average conference distribution with more than a year’s notice and six times that fee with less than a year’s notice

* A school can ask to withdraw just its football and/or basketball program while remaining in the Pac-12 for the rest of its sports but would lose its Board of Directors vote after that request, which must be approved by the remaining schools

* The Pac-12’s liabilities for backpay as part of the House vs. NCAA settlement were redacted

* The Pac-12 will sponsor eight men’s sports (football, basketball, baseball, golf, cross country, outdoor track and field, tennis, wrestling) and 11 women’s sports (basketball, cross country, outdoor track and field, soccer, volleyball, golf, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, gymnastics and rowing, which will be determined in spring/summer 2025)
