Aaron Rodgers will change teams again, joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for what may be his final NFL season. Bill Cowher wouldn’t waste time letting the quarterback run the show.

On Tuesday, Dan Patrick asked Cowher if he’d give Rodgers full autonomy over the Steelers offense in line with what Ben Roethlisberger had. The former Steelers head coach gave an emphatic yes, explaining that Rodgers has enough awareness to maintain a balanced attack.
“Absolutely. I don’t think there’s any question about it,” Cowher told Patrick. “And I think Aaron’s at a point where he knows, you don’t want him to be throwing the ball 40 times a game at this point. You want Aaron Rodgers to be healthy going into the playoffs.”
Cowher thinks Pittsburgh can trust the four-time MVP when the game is on the line.
“You can turn the ball over to him at the end of a half, at the end of a game and know he’s been there before,” Cowher said. “And I think he will operate that very, very efficiently. Again, I think it’s going to be a matter of getting comfortable within this system with the players he has around him.”

Cowher led the Steelers to a Super Bowl title during the 2005 season, his penultimate year in Pittsburgh. Mike Tomlin has maintained the organization’s prestigious coaching legacy, but the Steelers haven’t won a playoff game in eight years.

The Steelers have responded by adding Rodgers, DK Metcalf, and Jalen Ramsey. Cowher believes there’s a “degree of urgency” to make more postseason noise behind their flashy offseason acquisitions.
The CBS analyst warned that it won’t be an instant adjustment for the new-look Steelers roster in 2025.
“I think the biggest thing right now is going out there and try to bring this whole thing together,” Cowher said. “A lot of change in terms of the faces of this team. That doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time. Communication has to take place.”
