Shaquill Griffin, who spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Seahawks, is returning to Seattle, a place he credits with “creating him.”

“I feel like it took a lot of discussion,” Griffin said on signing with Seattle. “A lot of it mainly with my family, having kids now. Understanding that people know that I was here with my twin brother [Shaquem Griffin], so this time around is a tad different. The main thing about it, I wanted my family to see who created me, how it all happened, where it all started, the reason why we’re all here. The reason why I met my fiancé, the reason why we have kids, all of that started from this place and to come back full circle, I felt like it was only right that I experienced it with them as well.”

The veteran cornerback signed with the Seahawks Wednesday, giving the Seahawks an experienced player to add competition and depth to an already strong position group led by returning starters Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen and Josh Jobe. Cornerback JT Woods was waived to make room on the 90-man roster.

A third-round pick out of Central Florida in 2017, Griffin started 53 games and appeared in 57 in his four seasons in Seattle, earning Pro-Bowl honors in 2019. He then signed with Jacksonville as a free agent, returning to his home state, and after two seasons with the Jaguars, he spent 2023 with Houston and Carolina before joining the Vikings last season.
