The Mississippi Senate honored a local professional football player and Super Bowl champion.Kenneth Gainwell was surrounded by fans, friends and family at the state Capitol on Wednesday morning.Gainwell once played football for Yazoo County High School. This past NFL season, he helped the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.The state Senate presented the running back, No. 14, with Senate Resolution No. 60, congratulating him on his championship performance. “Being a small-world champion, it feels like, you know, you achieved everything you want and go and get more, and it feels amazing,” Gainwell said.A parade is scheduled to be held for Gainwell on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Benton.Gainwell, 26, will not be with the Eagles next season. He has taken his talents to the Pittsburgh Steelers.Gainwell is the cousin of fellow Yazoo County native Fletcher Cox, who played defensive tackle for 12 seasons with the Eagles, during which he helped them win Super Bowl 52 against the New England Patriots. The six-time Pro Bowler retired last year.
