Here’s something to look forward to. Sports Logos’ Andrew Lind reports that the New Orleans Saints plan on rolling out a new alternate helmet and accompanying helmet on Tuesday, July 22, just before the team kicks off their 2025 training camp on the following Wednesday. Lind previously reported that the Saints were among several teams working on new alternate helmets.
But that’s not all. This reports says that the Saints plan on replacing one of their two alternate uniforms while introducing the new look, swapping it out for either their old-school throwback uniforms or their popular white-and-gold “Color Rush” combo. Lind adds that “An old gold helmet makes sense” to better match the team’s pants (which clash with the shade used in their throwbacks), so maybe that’s a hint. Maybe it isn’t.

Either way, change was needed. When the NFL changed its rules to allow teams to use two different helmet designs a few years back, the Saints’ overworked black helmets were a bit of a dud (going 0-4 in the new lids didn’t help). The consensus take was that they needed more time in the oven, or at least shouldn’t have been paired with their white “Color Rush” uniforms. If this move rectifies that mistake, it could be a big win for NFL fashion advocates everywhere. But of course the largest concern is whether the Saints are winning games, not what they’re wearing into them.
More changes are on the horizon. Starting this year, the AFC East and NFC West teams will unveil “Nike Rivalries” uniforms which will be introduced for every team in the league by 2028. Saints fans will have to wait a year or two (or three) to see what’s coming, but at least they’ll get an early look at a different jersey this summer.
