Fantasy football managers are already salivating over the chance to take Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs in the top of their drafts entering the 2025 season.
Gibbs is coming off of a 2024 season that saw him climb to RB1 once he took the reigns from David Montgomery last in the year. He averaged nearly six more touches and almost 13 additional fantasy points with Montgomery out of the lineup for four games.
There’s been no sign that Montgomery will lost his starting job with the Lions, but that doesn’t mean Gibbs won’t once again get his fair share of touches. If anything, he may be relied on more to create space with questions along the Lions offensive line entering the season.

Gibbs is a near-guaranteed first-round fantasy pick this season, and it would be a tough decision to pass on him outside of the top five. Depending on a fantasy manager’s philosophy — taking the best receiver or best running back first — Gibbs is most likely to fall to pick No. 5 in PPR leagues, behind Ja’Marr Chase, Bijan Robinson, Saquon Barkley, and Justin Jefferson.
