When the Denver Broncos used their first-round pick to select quarterback Bo Nix in last year’s NFL draft, his new teammates didn’t know what to expect from their incoming QB.
“I didn’t do a whole lot of the scouting [on Nix],” Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey said after the 2024 season. “I think once we got around him in the building for a week or two — a couple weeks in April — you’re like, ‘Oh man, this kid is made of the right stuff.’”

Nix’s football talent would show up on the field later, but it didn’t take long for McGlinchey and the team’s other veterans to quickly identify the rookie’s leadership skills.
“Obviously, when you’re in shorts in April and May and doing OTA practices, you really can’t tell what kind of a football player he is really until we get into August, and when we put the pads on and all that kind of stuff,” McGlinchey said. “I will say that from right away, Bo captured this locker room by the way that he works, by the person that he is and the way that he progressed.
“It takes a lot of hard work to get better week in and week out. It takes a lot of focus, and a lot of the guys aren’t ready to commit themselves to that. I think Bo is certainly a shining example of that, and it permeated through our locker room. The improvement from him going forward is just going to be exponential.”
Nix struggled early in his pro career as a QB, but his leadership never wavered, and his performance picked up a few weeks into the season. The former Auburn and Oregon QB ended up surpassing 4,200 yards from scrimmage and scoring 34 touchdowns in 2024, impressive totals from a rookie. Now with a year of experience under his belt, Nix is even more confident going into 2025. The Broncos are in good hands with their 25-year-old QB leading the squad.
