The Carolina Panthers were hellbent on fixing their defense this offseason, one way or another.

On Wednesday, the team released its latest episode of “Panthers Blueprint,” an in-house docuseries covering the organization’s behind-the-scenes operations. This newest offering chronicled Carolina’s journey through free agency, and may have revealed an early target that the front office was eyeing.

Take a look . . .

Given the context about turning their attention to the defensive front, “Murphy” could have been Byron Murphy—one of the top cornerbacks of the 2025 free agent class. The 2024 Pro Bowler, fresh off amassing career-highs in tackles (81) and interceptions (six), ended up signing back with the Minnesota Vikings on a three-year deal worth up to $66 million.

Much to the satisfaction of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, the Panthers used much of their money on the front—reeling in the likes of linemen Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown III as well as outside linebacker Pat Jones II, Murphy’s teammate of the past two seasons. They also made a big-money addition of their own to the secondary, adding former Las Vegas Raiders safety Tre’von Moehrig on a three-year, $51 million pact.

Oh, and they didn’t ignore the cornerback position either—locking up Jaycee Horn on a five-year, $100 extension and fellow starter Mike Jackson on a two-year, $14.5 contract.
