Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange was named a fantasy football breakout candidate by Pro Football Focus.

Jonathon Macri of PFF recently highlighted two tight end breakout candidates for the 2025 season in the fantasy football realm, and included was Strange.

“Strange’s efficiency was on par with Engram’s in 2024, finishing right behind Engram’s 1.51 yards per route run (1.49),” wrote Macri. “Strange’s 8.6 PPR points per game across eight games without Engram also came close to matching Engram’s 9.9 across his nine games last season.”

Strange now sits atop the Jaguars‘ tight end depth chart heading into the upcoming season. That in itself will lead to more opportunities, but as we saw in Tampa Bay last season with Liam Coen calling plays, the tight end plays a key role within the passing game in this system.

The Bucs’ Cade Otton finished ninth among all tight ends in targets with 84 in 2024, along with ranking 14th in yards and 13th in touchdowns, per PFF.

Also, pairing up with a receiver room that features Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, and Travis Hunter could create some favorable matchups for Strange with the attention that the wideouts will garner.

Although Strange’s versatility and abilities as a run-blocker won’t directly impact the fantasy football scoreboard, the well-rounded skill set he possesses will allow him to leave his mark in a variety of ways.

This do-it-all presence at tight end can add some unpredictability to an offense, with that player able to fill so many roles. This, in turn, can create opportunities for others as well as for Strange to exploit.

“His work ethic, first and foremost, is hopefully a leadership attribute that the guys can model and see what he does on a day-to-day basis,” offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said. “But from a leadership standpoint and just from a player standpoint, you see a guy with a lot of potential to just continue to grow, whether it’s in the pass game or the run game.

“A guy with a lot of physical traits that can be that balanced tight end and do a lot of different things that this offense will ask him to do.”
