The Cleveland Browns have been sitting on the No. 2 overall pick of the draft since the end of last season. We’ve seen sentiment shift regarding who they might select — first it was QB Shedeur Sanders, then DE Abdul Carter, but then WR/CB Travis Hunter has become the latest hot commodity. Hunter to the Browns with the second overall pick seemed like a sure bet — but just like the Browns once traded the farm for QB Deshaun Watson, now they’re trying to do the opposite and acquire the farm from someone else.
Rumors started hitting hard a few hours before the draft that several teams were pushing hard to make a trade happen with the Browns for their coveted No. 2 overall pick. When Cleveland went on the clock, the trade became official, as they fell back to No. 5 overall in a trade package with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The parameters of the trade were in place prior to the draft, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, but they wanted to make sure nothing crazy happened ahead of them and that someone else jumped them at No. 1 overall. (No worries there, because the Tennessee Titans stayed put and selected QB Cam Ward.)
Here are the details of the trade:
