Patrick Mahomes has undoubtedly been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL since 2018. Are the best years of his career behind him though?

During his first season as the full-time starter for the Kansas City Chiefs, Mahomes threw for 5,097 yards with 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. This past season, however, he had 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. It was considered a down year for the three-time Super Bowl champion.
Even though Mahomes has proven over the past two years that he can elevate his play in the biggest moments, a future Hall of Famer is convinced we’ve already seen the best of No. 15 in Kansas City.
During a recent episode of his podcast, Pittsburgh Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger said Mahomes is “entering out” of his prime.
“Well, I would take Aaron and his prime over Patrick now,” Roethlisberger said. “I think Aaron Rodgers at his prime was one of the top few to ever do it, and so is Patrick Mahomes at his prime. Patrick Mahomes is just entering out of his prime.”

Those comments from Roethlisberger didn’t sit well with Mahomes’ longtime trainer, Bobby Stroupe.

Stroupe fired back at Roethlisberger with this ruthless message: “Not everybody quits working out at 30 years old, Ben.”
Mahomes will be out to prove his critics wrong this fall. After all, he’s highly motivated to put this past February’s Super Bowl loss behind him.
“When you lose a Super Bowl, I think there’s sometimes in those workouts, you may be a little tired, you have that extra added motivation to finish even harder, finish even stronger,” Mahomes told reporters, via USA Today. “I think it’ll be good for us at the end of the day.”
The Chiefs will kick off their 2025 season on Sept. 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
