Third-string OT Brandon Walton and OLB Thomas Incoom both got physical after a Dalton toss to Etienne for a TD in 11 on 11. Incoom made contact with Walton’s facemask. Chippy #Panthers minicamp.

The Carolina Panthers turned up the heat just before heading off for their summer vacation.

Thursday marked the team’s third and final session of mandatory minicamp, which didn’t conclude without a minor brouhaha or two. As noted by multiple reporters from the practice field, things got a little chippy this afternoon . . .

3rd team scrapping today. 2nd scuffle of the practice for that group.

Luckily, nothing too crazy came as a result of the small scraps.

So now, perhaps the guys can make nice and begin their five-week break by bonding over the rest of the NBA Finals—something head coach Dave Canales wants to use as a building tool for his own squad.

“Look at the teams that play together,” Canales told reporters afterwards. “Look at the teams that talk on the bench. When they come off, there’s an exchange that happens. When the coach addresses them, they got their full attention. They make those micro-adjustments. And that’s great team play.

“And then, look at the teams that finish. Turnovers are just as important. They show the stats on TV. 21 points off turnovers versus seven. Those types of things matter to us too. So it’s such a gift, in the spring while we’re practicing on our game, to point to the things that lead to success in the playoffs.”

Well, you know what they say—teams that scrap and watch the NBA playoffs together stay together.
