We’re getting to the point in the NFL offseason where more thorough and thoughtful predictions for the coming 2025 season are starting to emanate. Our own win/loss forecast for the Detroit Lions is coming soon, but I thought it would be fun to take a little different course for a prediction on the Lions season.

I prompted Grok, the AI program from X (formerly Twitter), to predict the Lions 2025 record game-by-game.

The results were pretty darn optimistic. Grok predicted the Lions would finish with a 13-4 record, including a 5-1 prediction against the NFC North foes (Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota).

Going through game-by-game, the Lions start out the schedule 3-3 thanks to a schedule front-loaded with formidable foes. Losses come at Baltimore, at Cincinnati and at Kansas City. Detroit then rips through the remaining 11 games going 10-1, with the only loss coming to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12.

Grok’s own summary of the Lions’ 2025 season prediction:

Final Predicted Record: 13-4

Analysis and Context

Strengths: The Lions’ offensive line, run game (David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs), and Jared Goff’s consistency in a stable system give them an edge in most matchups. Dan Campbell’s aggressive coaching style and home-field advantage at Ford Field are significant factors.

Challenges: Early road games against elite quarterbacks (Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes) test the Lions’ defense, which is improving but not yet elite. The tough stretch from Weeks 3-6 could see them drop a few games.

Overall Outlook: A 13-4 record positions the Lions as a top NFC contender, likely securing a high playoff seed. This aligns with some optimistic projections but contrasts with betting odds suggesting an under on 10.5 wins, indicating a challenging schedule.

The AI forecast is one that most Lions fans would be very happy to see come to fruition.

Editor’s note: Grok, like all AI, culls information from sources. In this case, it cited 15 different sources for concocting its answer. One of those sources is Lions Wire, and others include familiar Lions sites Pride of Detroit, ESPN and MLive, that Grok “synthesized” to create the record prediction. Consider that a disclaimer for the results.
