Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at third-year safety Keidron Smith, No. 43.
Before the Broncos: Smith (6-2, 210 pounds) played college football at Ole Miss (2018-2021) and Kentucky (2022) before being signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He was cut by the Dolphins after preseason and picked up by the Washington Commanders, who added him to their practice squad. Washington cut Smith about a month after signing him.

Broncos tenure: Two months after being cut by the Commanders, Smith joined Denver’s practice squad for the remainder of the 2023 season. He then impressed last summer and made the initial 53-man roster after recording two interceptions during preseason. Smith was bumped down to the practice squad mid-way through the 2024 season.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Toss-up. Smith dressed for nine games last season and played 50% of the special teams snaps in those contests, but he is now competing for a spot in a crowded secondary. Brandon Jones, Talanoa Hufanga, P.J. Locke and Sam Franklin are probably all ahead of Smith on the safety depth chart, and JL Skinner, Delarrin Turner-Yell and Devon Key are also competing for playing time. It will be a numbers game for Denver. Whether or not Smith makes it could depend on how many safeties end up on the active roster.
