Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Savion Williams didn’t get the hype that first-rounder Matthew Golden did in the 2025 NFL Draft, but one prominent draft analyst thinks he could have a huge impact on the team in 2025.
Williams, who the team made a third-round pick out of TCU, had two productive seasons in college, leading his team in receiving as a senior.
Despite that, he’s almost slipped under the radar in Green Bay, such was the outpouring of delight at the team finally taking a playmaker in the draft’s opening round, that being Texas’s Matthew Golden.
However, prominent draft analyst Bruce Feldman has made a comparison of Williams to one of the league’s most explosive playmakers, and it might give a clue about where Williams will fit into the Packers offensive scheme in 2020.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, after the draft’s conclusion, draft analyst Bruce Feldman pointed out how much he liked the Packers selecting Williams, and made a comparison to one of the NFL’s most explosive playmakers.
Packers got a stud in Savion Williams. “He’s a different player from Quentin Johnston. This kid is a brute. Loves contact. Seeks contact. He’s like Cordarelle Patterson. When he learns to run routes, that run after the catch is gonna be crazy.” https://t.co/sEIPkFRLch

Patterson was originally drafted as a receiver by the Minnesota Vikings in 2013, but following a few frustrating years, he found his stride after becoming something of an all-around athlete during his NFL career. While listed at different times as a receiver, runner and returner, he’s been productive at all three spots, scoring 48 total touchdowns with 2,646 rushing yards, 2,875 receiving yards, and 8,229 return yards in his career. He’s been named a four-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler as a result.
Patterson, however, never nailed down a permanent home, spending time with the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, and Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the Vikings.
Challenges ahead for Savion Williams
While it’s a nice comparison, Williams will probably hope to be more successful and consistent as a receiver than Patterson ever was. Where the comparison likely comes from, however, is an offensive coordinators desire to ‘get the ball in his hands’ at almost any cost.
This is likely to be music to Matt LaFleur’s ears, as he’ll spend most of training camp and the team’s early games trying to find a consistent presence to replace the injured Christian Watson. It feels as though the drafting of both Golden and Williams was designed to restock the team’s firepower, helping Jordan Love to continue moving forward and bring the team closer to an elusive Super Bowl championship.
Savion Williams is an INSANE athlete.
Led all WRs with 43 total missed tackles forced (next best was 32!!) while taking snaps at RB and WR.
Verified at 6’4, 220lbs with a 73.5% career contested catch rate. Projected to run 4.4s with a 40+ inch vertical. Drops are a concern. pic.twitter.com/gMvHLT3ZeN

Williams certainly has the skillset to get involved. However, his first steps must be to both learn the scheme and continue to round out his rough edges (such as his hands) if he hopes to get on the field. If he can, his insane combination of size and speed should make him an excellent toy for the Packers’ coaching staff to play with.
Let’s see what’s ahead, although it’s difficult to bet against Williams showing up in some highlight packages this season.
