The flash flooding has killed at least 93 people. Gov. Greg Abbott said dozens of people were unaccounted for across the state, and more could be missing.
The organization announced Monday it is committing $1 million toward immediate and long-term recovery efforts in the region.
The funding will support emergency response needs and continue into rebuilding efforts focused on youth initiatives, which is a key mission of the Astros Foundation.
In addition, the Astros Foundation plans to launch a fan-driven campaign to gain more support. The goal is to engage the team’s dedicated fan base in providing long-term resources for Central Texas families working to recover and rebuild.
“It’s important to the entire Astros organization to send immediate support to our fellow Texans throughout the Hill Country during this devastating time,” said Astros Owner and Chairman Jim Crane, alongside his wife Whitney, in a news release. “There is a lot still unknown as recovery efforts are ongoing, but the Astros are committed to supporting Central Texas communities in the long term through the coming days, months and years to help rebuild and heal.”
The Astros also extended gratitude to first responders who have been working tirelessly in the aftermath of the flooding.
