Netflix’s second season of its ‘Quarterback’ docuseries showed Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow visibly fed up during the Bengals-Titans Week 15 matchup, calling his teammates embarrassingJoe Burrow warms up before an NFL gameJoe Burrow called his teammates embarrassing during last year’s Bengals-Titans game

Fans of the Cincinnati Bengals couldn’t comprehend how angry Joe Burrow was during last season when the franchise missed the NFL Playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

The behind-the-scenes curtain was lifted to show NFL fans just how irate Burrow was at his teammate’s mental mistakes that nearly lost the game, and wasted an MVP-caliber season.

With a 6-8 record and coming off losing three of the last five games, NFL fans got a candid look inside the Bengals’ huddle during Week 15’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans during season 2 of the league’s Netflix ‘Quarterback’ series. Despite going on to win the game 37-27, Burrow’s frustration came after the team gave up 14 penalties for 113 yards, primarily five false start calls, including three from tight end Cam Grandy.

On fourth down in the red zone, with nearly three minutes remaining on the clock in regulation, rookie center Matt Lee committed the final false start of the game. The infraction pushed the team back five yards, resulting in a difficult fourth and long.

Despite the drive ending with a touchdown from running back Chase Brown, Burrow was visibly frustrated from the earlier mistakes.

After the blow of the whistle, an angry Burrow walked away from the huddle and yelled: “What the ____ are we doing, man? Wake the ___ up! ____ing mental mistakes all ____ing day.”

Defensive back B.J. Hill looked dejected when facing the wrath of Burrow, who sat in silence next to Jake Browning on the bench until the clip flashed to the end of the game.

Coach Zac Taylor came over to check on his starting quarterback and encouraged him for his final drive of the game. The 14-play drive was the longest in the game, but Burrow completed just two passes while the team relied on its run game for the win.

Burrow called the team’s performance “embarrassing” and stared beyond his coach, seeming not to want to hear the advice as he gazed intensely beyond him.

As Taylor vowed to handle the issues and suggested Burrow “enjoy some of these wins,” the quarterback shook his head and said: “____ that, we sucked today. It was embarrassing. We jumped offside eight times.”

Taylor praised the team’s defensive performance after forcing six turnovers, including four interceptions between Will Levis (3) and Mason Rudolph (1). The Bengals also recovered two fumbles, one of which resulted in a Burrow touchdown pass to defensive end Sam Hubbard for the first of his career.

The Bengals coach described the flare-up as an “emotional moment” that could be determined as conflict, but is just “passion for the game.”

Cincinnati won the remaining three games on its schedule following the incident. They were officially eliminated from playoff contention after the Broncos defeated the Chiefs in the season’s final week.

Cincinnati began training camp for next season on July 23, and Burrow is heading into 2025 with a positive mindset that was on full display during June 10th’s press conference.

The team’s veteran offense features Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, two of the NFL’s highest-paid receivers.
