The Tennessee Titans desperately needed some help at the quarterback position after the poor showing in 2024, which is what ultimately led to the Titans selecting Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the top overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Since joining the Titans, Ward shows every day that he is a professional, he cares about the people in the organization, and he can lead.
Right now, we’re in the middle of the most boring part of the NFL season. No minicamps, no OTAs, and training camp doesn’t start for two more weeks. What do the players do with this time? This year, Ward brought several players with him to Miami for workouts at his former school.
Despite the beaches, scenery, and weather, Ward says Nashville is better than Miami.
“Nashville’s better,” Ward says. “It’s really just Miami without water, but it’s less expensive, too. You get your money’s worth, like for everything. Land, food, etc.”
Ward’s example for cost comparison was sushi. He says that in Miami, you can get two pieces of sushi for $30, but in Nashville, you pay $25 for four.
However, perhaps the most interesting thing Ward says in this video is about wide receiver Calvin Ridley.
“That boy different,” Ward said. “How he moves, everything. Now that I see what a receiver is supposed to be like, that’s why I’m glad that Eli (Elic Ayomanor), Chim (Chimere Dike), Strep (Xavier Restrepo), Bryce (Oliver), all the guys in that room, I’m glad they got him because I ain’t never threw to no receiver like him, who move like him, can cut like him, and that boy, he ain’t selfish either. He wants the rookies, all of us, to do better than him because he’s gonna end up getting his one-on-ones.”
Last season, many questioned if Ridley was truly the right answer to the receiver question. He recorded over 1,000 yards receiving in 2024, but through most of the season, he lacked effort. So, it’s good to hear Ward say this about Ridley. Maybe it’s because Ridley has something to look forward to, now, that this team is building and working on getting better, and he gets to be part of that rebuild.
Ridley, along with Tyler Lockett, are the top veteran receivers in the locker room. They have the most knowledge to pass on to the younger players, and they can have a hand in the development of the rookies. The Titans are sitting in a much better position in 2025 than they were at this time in 2024, which bodes well for having a better season once it starts this fall.
