Let’s take a closer look at this Indianapolis Colts team as we go player-by-player through the roster. Up next is CB Alex Johnson.
With offseason programs now behind us, we will be getting a jump start on our training camp preview by going player-by-player through the Indianapolis Colts’ 91-man roster.

2024 Season Review
Johnson went undrafted last April out of UCLA and initially signed with the New York Giants. He spent offseason programs and training camp with the team before being released at roster cutdowns. Johnson was then signed back to the Giants’ practice squad, where he spent the first four weeks of the season.
After being released from the Giants’ practice squad, Johnson signed with the Colts’ practice squad. He finished out the 2024 season with the Colts and signed a reserve/futures deal with the team in January.
The bulk of Johnson’s playing time at UCLA came during his final season in 2023. He allowed a completion rate of 54% on 46 targets and just 8.1 yards per catch, with five interceptions and two pass breakups. Johnson was primarily a slot defender, per PFF’s tracking data.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season
Johnson finds himself in what has quickly become a crowded cornerback room. Charvarius Ward, Kenny Moore, Justin Walley, JuJu Brents, Jaylon Jones, Corey Ballentine, and Sam Womack already account for seven potential roster spots, and the Colts might not even roster that many players at this position.
As a second-year player, the practice squad is likely Johnson’s ceiling to begin the season.
